Rejection Letters

“Unfortunately…”

“We’re sorry to inform you…”

“You have great qualities, but…”

Rejection. We’ve all faced it in some form.

how exciting

And I’m sure you’ve heard, “Rejection is just God’s protection.” Perfect, right? When you aren’t selected for the dream job you’ve been praying for, when you find out you’ve miscarried for the third time, when you didn’t pass the class you needed to move forward in your program, when your great business idea fails or when a relationship all of a sudden goes left.

In those moments, it’s hard to see God’s protection. It’s hard to understand why, once again, you’ve been let down. It’s hard to comprehend God’s plan.

Remember the story in Luke 5 when the disciples went fishing and caught nothing all night? They eventually called it quits and decided to clean their nets. However, the next day Jesus told them to try again. Simon’s first response was to let Him know they’d fished all night and not caught anything.

Have you ever been afraid to try again because your past attempts didn’t work out well? Are you trusting more in your track record than God, who has the power to move on your behalf? Although they had fished for hours and they were most likely tired and maybe discouraged, the disciples listened to Jesus when He spoke. They took Him at His word and it worked.

“Master,” Simon replied, “we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again.” And this time their nets were so full of fish they began to tear!
Luke 5:5-6 NLT

Have you listened for God’s voice? What does He have to say about what you’re going through? Have you surrendered control to Him or are you solely committed to doing your own thing?

Take all of your rejection letters and turn them into prayers. If God wants to open a door for you, He will open it. You won’t have to struggle to pry it open yourself, or beg anyone on the other side to let you in. When you allow God to have complete control over your life, you position yourself to receive all that He has for you – exceedingly, abundantly, far above all that you may ask or even imagine.

“A shout for help brought their partners in the other boat, and soon both boats were filled with fish and on the verge of sinking.”
Luke 5:7 NLT

Rejection stings and it can be discouraging. During those challenging times, remember that it is not God’s character to withhold any good thing from you. He has purpose for your life and an amazing plan that is far beyond what you can see right now.

“Jesus replied to Simon, ‘Don’t be afraid! From now on you’ll be fishing for people!’ And as soon as they landed, they left everything and followed Jesus.”
Luke 5:10-11 NLT

The disciples were amazed by what God had done. Just hours before, they had seemingly worked so hard to no avail. And although they didn’t understand, they were willing to trust in the One who knows everything. God has all power, which means your entire life can change in a moment. He has a reason for not answering that prayer or opening that door. You will not be in this season forever, but there is so much you can learn while you’re here. I encourage you to study scriptures on rejection, God’s love for you, and faith. Spending time with God strengthens your faith and gives you a healthy perspective. Even through pain, we can find peace in our Savior 🙂

“For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.”
Psalm 84:11 KJV
