“He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.”
Proverbs 28:13 (NKJV)
In the book of Genesis, when Adam and Eve felt shame because of their sin, their initial reaction was to hide from God. Of course, their attempts were unsuccessful. As silly as it sounds now, Adam and Eve really thought they could cover their sin from God. They had gone behind His back and done the very thing He’d asked them not to do. Have you ever found yourself in a place of shame and fear after doing something you shouldn’t have? Did you try to “hide” or ignore what happened in hopes that life would go on as normal?
God desires honesty from us. The same God who knows the beginning from the end, knew you would make mistakes. He knew you would never be perfect while on this earth, and He chose to love you anyway. Other people also need to know you’re not perfect. It’s hard to relate to someone that never makes mistakes.
Part of your purpose here on earth is to uplift and encourage others. God places us in the paths of believers and non-believers so that we can be a blessing, and be blessed. Healing takes place in community, where you are able to remove your mask and be transparent. The sin and the struggles you overcame may be the story of hope someone else needs to hear.
“Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”
James 1:5 (KJV)
