“Don’t wear yourself out trying to get rich. Be wise enough to know when to quit.”
Proverbs 23:4 (NLT)
This passage reminds me of the importance of rest. I’ve been guilty of going, going, going, and not taking a break. Even God rested on the 7th day when creating the world. He also gave the Israelites a rest day in the wilderness. When Jesus was traveling and ministering with the disciples, He still pulled away and spent time with God.
Although we must refrain from laziness and idleness, we must also be intentional about taking time to rest. You cannot pour into others from an empty cup, and you definitely can’t thrive if you never stop to refresh. Aside from provision and responsibilities, what are your motives for working so hard? Do you trust God to take care of you or are you trying to do everything on your own? Are you spending your money wisely and then having to overcompensate? Are you trying to fill a void?
Thank God for all that you have, trust Him to provide, and pray for the wisdom to know when to take a break.
“In the blink of an eye wealth disappears, for it will sprout wings and fly away like an eagle.”
Proverbs 23:5 (NLT)
